Operation Shelter: Resilient Housing & Community Recovery Initiative

Operation Shelter Jamaica is a community recovery initiative focused on helping families rebuild safe and stable homes following hurricane damage across Jamaica. The program combines hurricane-resilient housing solutions with home restoration efforts to support families whose homes were damaged or destroyed by severe storms.

A Smarter Way to Rebuild

After natural disasters, many families are left without safe housing and remain vulnerable to future storms. Temporary solutions often fail to provide long-term safety and stability families need.

Operation Shelter Jamaica addresses this challenge through two key recovery approaches:

  • Hurricane-Resilient Container Homes – providing durable housing solutions for families whose homes were destroyed or are no longer safe to occupy.
  • Home Restoration – repairing and strengthening damaged homes so families can safely return to their communities.

By restoring homes where possible and introducing resilient housing where needed, the program provides faster and more sustainable pathways for communities to recover.

Thank you for your support.

Program Progress

Operation Shelter Jamaica has already moved from planning into implementation.

With the support of donors and partners:

  • 50 hurricane-resilient container homes have been ordered
    • Manufacturing and procurement have been completed
    • Units have been shipped and are now in Jamaica

The program is now entering the next phase of implementation, which focuses on site preparation, installation, and community placement for the first group of homes.

These milestones mark a significant step toward restoring safe housing and stability for families impacted by hurricanes across Jamaica.
