KNIGHTS IN THE RING INITIATIVES
At LOCF, we tackle the pressing issue of at-risk youth lacking access to safe and enriching after-school and summer programs. The way children and youth utilize their leisure time plays a crucial role in shaping their behavioural and social learning processes.
Unfortunately, in underserved communities, many young people face significant gaps in their schedules after school and during summer breaks, often finding themselves with idle time and limited access to enriching activities. This lack of structured engagement can hinder their self-efficacy, putting both their physical and psychological safety at risk.

Research indicates that dismissal time on school days, between the hours of 3 PM and 7 PM, is a prime period for juvenile crime, as at-risk youth often find themselves without constructive activities or adult supervision.
During these hours, these young individuals are more likely to engage in violent crimes or become victims of such crimes and other dangers (Newman, Fox, Flyn, & Christeson 2000).
